Project FAQ
READ THIS ENTRY BEFORE SENDING PMS, please. The bullet points below answer what communities are part of AP (basically whose files are we reuploading) and HOW TO JOIN AP.

  • Most of the older subbed videos are gone. There are a lot of fans out there who would be willing to help out, but all of us would like to ask for the fansubbers' approval if we can reupload their files.

  • This community will contain all of [livejournal.com profile] taijiprojectsub's (Becky) subbed files. Per Becky's request, posts containing her files are locked to members only. Please join [livejournal.com profile] arashiproject to access these files. Please remember not to share Becky's files outside the community, but please feel free to direct everyone who wants to download the files to this community. Everyone's welcome!

  • This community will contain [livejournal.com profile] ao_no_michi's subbed files. All files will be on locked posts that only members have access to. Again, please remember not to share these files outside this community, but please feel free to redirect everyone who wants to download them here.

  • This community will contain all subbed files that [livejournal.com profile] techni_teddy and [livejournal.com profile] nyanchan have collaborated on. Again, please remember not to share these files outside this community, but please feel free to redirect everyone who wants to download them here.

  • Just click on JOIN, and wait to be accepted in the community!

AN IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • [Lyra/hanazawahyuuga here] As of 10.22.2016, AP is OPEN to trying to contact any other inactive subbing communities. If there are other comms that you wish to be contacted, please send me the email address and the LJ user of the owner/maintainer of that community. Email me at lyra.gill@gmail.com.

To the fansubbers:

  • We understand if you don't want your links posted outside your community. What we can suggest is that we can help you reupload the files, and you can be the one to edit the original journal entry of the subbed file. However, if you don't have time to maintain/update your community, I am more than willing to help you maintain the community (in accepting new members and updating old posts with new links). This way, your links will still remain inside your community.

MASTERPOSTS:
If you want to help reupload, or if you want to create mirror links, please click on the links below for more details:If you want to help, just join this community and comment away!

hi! I would love to help with this project. I don't think I have enough files on me to be of any significant assistance as far as re-uploads. But I can try to help contact fansubbers and make lists of what needs re-uploaded.

I think what we could maybe do is (once we start getting things re-uploaded) is make some kind of masterpost with links to the original posts. For instance, if I re-upload a file and post the links in the comments of the original entry, the link in the masterpost would look something like this:

Arashi Show X - Episode Y - Original owner: LJUserA - Download Here

The "Here" would be a hyperlink to the comment I'd left with the new download links.

Of course that's a few steps later, so maybe someone will come up with a better plan between now and then, but this is just a thought. And who knows how to handle the closed comms that give us permission to re-upload but don't open up membership.

For now, we'll just keep trying to get in touch with the subbers. I'll try to ask a few people and comment again with the results.

Hopefully we can pull this off!

Thanks for your help!

I was part of Refrain Subs. I can't give you permission to post our stuff as I wasn't the leader of the project and I'm also not sure I can contact the leader ( I sent her a message a long time ago and she never replied ), but I can try asking the opinion of the other members.

There are some files I subbed 100% by myself and I don't mind if you share those, but those are mostly short clips. Tell me if you're interested in those.
[identity profile] hanazawahyuuga.livejournal.com on August 14th, 2013 03:53 pm (UTC)
Hi darkhriss,

I would really appreciate it if you can ask the opinion of your fellow members. Also, I'd be interested in helping you share/recover the short clips you subbed yourself.

Why posting links in comments is not as feasible as you might think
1) I speak from personal experience and observation. many people go to a subbed video post, they see the link is dead. But they DO NOT search the comments for anyone who provided mirror links. i personally do that and when I recommend people do the same, they go, "are you crazy to go through 687978797 comments? why should i do the same?"
- What's more, most people will just hit reply and say, "Hey there, Subber, thanks for subbing. But the link is dead. Please upload soon."
- When the subber doesn't respond, they don't even check how long the subber has been off line, no longer on lj etc, they keep writing and asking for re-ups.
- therefore, even if you use this solution of sticking up re-up links in the comments of the post itself, 99/100 people will NOT check the comments to see if anyone has done so.

2) moreover, some comms have rules about no re-up of links fullstop, and this includes no re-uping of links in the comments of the post itself.
- in this scenario, your proposed idea wouldn't work either.

3) in some LJ communities/journals, both dead and alive, any reply with a link gets marked as spam and will not appear. this could be the subber's own setting and seems to be LJ's default setting. one example is Hanaraechan's comm.
- in this scenario, your proposed idea won't work because no one will see the re-upped link as it is marked and spam and will be deleted by the LJ powers that be.

4) there are some cases (in other non-arashi comms) where the comm is long dead and the mods have all abandoned ship. in those cases, lj steps in and makes that dead comm an archive. that means, it becomes a comm where no new entries can be posted by anyone to that comm, and no one can make any comments in any of the existing entries in said comm.
- again, your proposed scenario won't work here.

5) what happens if a new fan wants a file from a comm that is now dead and dead since 2009. they cannot join that comm because the mods are no longer around on LJ to allow them into the comm.
- even if you are a member of that dead comm and you put a re-uploaded link in the comments, how will these new fans gain access to that post in the first post?
- even if this dead comm has open membership, what makes you think the new fan will be the 1/100 who will look through all the comments to see if any kind person has put up a re-uped link?
- there's a 99.999 percent chance that even in a dead comm that is still open to anyone as long as they click join, your re-up will be marked and spam and deleted by LJ. even if that doesn't happen, 99 out of 100 people won't go looking at all the comments just to see if anyone has re-upped the file.
- as evidence, i cite you the example of the subbing group T101. That group removed all its download links to its older files in all its comm's entries. what did 99/100 of the users wanting the files now that the links have been removed do? they do not search the t101 comm for the modpost explaining why the T101 team did this. instead, the 99/100 of new users wanting the file, keep writing in the comments, "you claim you subbed this, but there are no download links. why?"
- again, your theory won't work here because that's the way folks are. They are lazy and won't read everything to find out why something is the way it is. they want to be spoon fed.

Another example, the mod account of the Kakenukero subbed archive list is for easy navigation of the archive, but people don't read her FAQ and still complain why her list is on etrangestorm and not in the Kakenukero subbed archive list. they also complain why it's so difficult to find the files they want without a "contents page". If they had only looked at the mod account for Kakenukero subbed archive list on etrangestorm, they will find it. But they do not do that. They also keep complaining that she leaves links to dead comms, deleted comms up even though she has stated on her main page why she doesn't do it.

People just don't READ. there's a 99% chance people WILL NOT want to go through all the pages of a post to look for re-ups.

Re: Why posting links in comments is not as feasible as you might think
I know what you mean. I currently maintain one community with my other friends. It's new and not much people know about that community because mostly subbed videos there comes from another fandom. I am the one who write the "rules" and "how to join" post. Almost everyday a few people who don't read it just click join. I reject them and said what should they do but they got it wrong, I attach a few pictures as example and they still got it wrong.

I want all people who come there enjoyed the videos but because of their own mistake and their own ignorance they can't join the community.

Arashi's communities are strict, I know that from my experience in other fandom. Fortunately, I join Arashi community first so I know how to behave in other fandom.
[identity profile] j-sei.livejournal.com on August 14th, 2013 02:02 pm (UTC)
for subber list, you might find this link <http://kakenukero.dreamwidth.org/> helpful..
mmestrange[personal profile] mmestrange on August 14th, 2013 02:12 pm (UTC)
The mod account (etrangestorm) has an FAQ. You must keep reading and scrolling to find it. Somewhere in one of the FAQ, she tells you which are some (not all) of the existing comms, how to join them etc.

I normally access kakenukero from the mod account because for me, the mod account works like the contents page, introduction, preface, acknowledgement sections of a book. But that's just me and I'm weird. Most people just head to the kakenukero comm straight and click around hoping to find what they want.

I'm following [livejournal.com profile] premium_shokura where they're in the process of collecting and apparently re-upping episodes of 'Premium Shounen Club'. I think it's wortwhile to check out how they're going along with this, it might be adaptable for this project in the future (at least partially).

Wow!
What a great idea and effort~! This is why I love this fandom. But I don't know what can I help since I don't know how to upload file, etc. Maybe anybody can teach me how. I have been in this fandom since 2009 and I have quite a bunch of file. Mostly their regular program and music program. Before this, I have all their individual appearance in many program. But that hard disk broke down already. So I lost all their appearance in other program.
But I don't have the right for the video as I'm not the translator, subber, editor or anything in contributing to make the videos.
Gud luck and all the best, everyone~ I will always support it!

I am a recent fan to Arashi and I am praying for the success of this project. I know how hard it is to get the old Arashi subbed files because of the reasons you have stated.

Will search my files and see what I can help you with it, though it may not be much coz am just a recent fan.

Good luck!

Hi,

First of all, I want to thank you for this wonderful initiative. I am a late-comer to the Arashi world and I really, really wanted to see those older shows but they were not available. I am so happy that you decided to do this (best holiday gift ever!)

I would very much appreciate it if you allowed me to join your community. I promise I shall not distribute the files in any way and will only keep them for my personal viewing.

Thank you!!!!
